The Tulip City Girls Soccer teams have state on their minds as they compete in the regional finals tonight.

Both Pella and Pella Christian have made the final 16, and will play for a chance to travel to the Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines this Thursday.

No. 1 Pella will have a rematch with conference foe, No. 15 Newton, at Pella High School. The Lady Dutch are looking for their third consecutive Class 2A state tournament appearance.

Senior Kiara Bradley tells KNIA/KRLS Sports both teams are familiar with one another, and it will be interesting to see what adjustments they can make to slow down key scorers.

“I think that for us, (Ryanne) Rausch is a really big girl up top for us to defend, so we just need to watch her line and know where she is at all times.”

In Class 1A, the upstart No. 10 Eagles program, fresh off of a double OT thriller against Bondurant-Farrar, will hit the road to No. 7 Center Point-Urbana.

Head Coach Mike Buchheit says he was able to scout the upcoming opponent when they faced Waterloo Columbus, a top five team, and sees similarities to the Lady Jays team PC defeated on Friday.

“They’ve got a center midfielder and a striker just like Bondurant-Farrar that like to attack the left side. So we’ll set up on that side strong and make sure we take that away as best we can. The other big thing is that they have a grass field, so we’ve gotten off our turf and hit up the Pella Soccer Complex to get some grass practices over the last couple days.”

Pella Christian’s matchup with the Stormin’ Pointers begins at 5 p.m., while the Lady Dutch host the Cardinals at 6 p.m.
