August is National Immunization Awareness Month. With school registration dates scheduled throughout the area, Marion County Public Health along with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention is reminding residents about the importance of immunizations.

Nurse Judi Van Hulzen with Marion County Public Health tells KNIA/KRLS News residents of Marion County just need to call the health department with their last name and date of birth and residents will be looked up in the state database and told what vaccinations they need. Van Hulzen says residents should talk to their doctor if they are unsure about receiving any vaccination. Marion County Public Health will also be in attendance during the Knoxville School’s Back to School Bash on August 2nd to administer immunizations. This year the CDC is emphasizing immunizations throughout different stages of life during each week in August.
