Drought Status as of July 27th

Drought has spread throughout all of Marion County.

According to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor, moderate drought is reported in most of the area, including in Marion, Mahaska, Jasper, Warren, and Monroe Counties. Severe drought is now settled in to most of Lucas County as well. According to the Iowa Department of Agriculture, more than 90 percent of south central Iowa’s topsoil falls into the short to very short moisture level categories. Little to no rain is in the forecast for the next seven days, according to the National Weather Service.
