On Monday, the Knoxville City Council discussed the city’s options as to how to fill the vacant city council position.

During Monday’s meeting the council decided it was in the city’s best interest to have the city appoint the next council member following an interview portion, much like the council did in April when they chose Megan Suhr as a council member. City Manager Aaron Adams tells KNIA/KRLS News the schedule is still up in the air, but the city will accept applications for the vacant position until Friday, August 4th. The council will then hold a special meeting sometime during the week of August 14th to interview candidates. The council will then choose who they feel is the best candidate for the position. Then at the next city council meeting on August 21st the new city council member will be sworn in. Adams says by appointing a new city council member the council’s decision will save the city close to $5,000 in money they would have spent if they would have chosen to hold a special election.
