Special Olympic Athletes represented Marion County at the 2017 Special Olympics Iowa State Summer Games which took place from May 25th through the 27th in Ames.

Athletes from Marion County advanced to the state games by earning 1st place blue ribbons at the regional competition in April.

Here are the results from the State Special Olympics, held on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames: Cameron Cross: 1st in the 50M Dash and 3rd in the Softball Throw Taylor Fearno: 5th in the 50M Dash and 1st in the Softball Throw Jacob Hindman: 1st in the 25YD Backstroke and 1st in the 25YD Freestyle (Swimming) Stacia Mason: 3rd in the Softball Throw Tanji O’Connor: 1st in the Standing Long Jump Tegan Ripperger: 1st in the 50M Dash and 2nd in the Softball Throw Marissa Schletzbaum: 3rd in the TurboJav Throw Haley Stevens: 1st in the TurboJav Throw and 1st in the 50M Dash Michelle Turnage: 2nd in the 50M Dash Shawn Barker: 2nd in the 1500M Run.

The 4×100 Relay received 2nd (Ben Heywood, Michelle Turnage, Haley Stevens, Marissa Schletzbaum) The 4×100 Unified Relay received 1st (Joe Morgan, AJ Bull, Stacia Mason, Gracie Irving).

Results from the Summer Games which took place on Thursday May 25 are: Stacia Mason: 2nd in the 250M Modified Cycling Michelle Turnage, Marissa Schletzbaum, Jacob Hindman, Ben Heywood: 3rd in Bocce Ball (team event)
