For the third time in four years, the Pella Christian softball team put themselves in a position to get to the state tournament.

And unfortunately for the Eagles, it’s 0-for-3 in those chances as they fell to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont 4-1 in a regional final heard live on 92.1 KRLS Monday night.

The Rockets got the early jump in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI double to take the first lead. Pella Christian’s bats never clicked despite only one strikeout, but numerous groundballs fielded cleanly by EBF never allowed them to find momentum. Eddyville poured on two more runs in the 3rd before stretching their lead to 4-0 in the 5th. The Eagles charged out of the gates in the top of the 6th, with three straight baserunners reaching to score their first tally, but a costly step off of third base by Lizzy Van Manen following an Emma Schnell RBI double with nobody out turned the situation from 2nd and 3rd to just a runner on and one outs after the catcher was tagged out, and PC was never able to mount the comeback needed to save their season.

Schnell was hung with the loss, giving up three earned runs in six innings. Pella Christian finishes 32-6 and the team says farewell to six seniors.
