Pella Historical Society and Museums has been awarded four grants totaling almost $10,000.

Director Valerie Van Kooten tells KNIA/KRLS News the funds will assist with a wide range of projects for the Historical Village and Tulip Time.

“We are thrilled to receive these funds, as they will help Pella Historical with some projects that will engage our visitors, help repair some of our historic buildings, and promote our speaker series,” she says. “We are so appreciative of private foundations and state governmental entities that contribute to our quality of life in Pella.”

A $5,000 grant from US Bank Bancorp will help renovate a Tulip Time float and provide televisions for videos in the Historical Village. These videos cover the life of Wyatt Earp, the Jaarsma family’s involvement with the Village bakery, and Dutch costumes and their origins and will be placed in the appropriate locations in the Village.

A $2,500 grant from the Iowa Arts Council (IAC) will help expand PHSM’s History Series for the 2017-’18 year. The History Series began in January 2017 as an inaugural program. PHSM’s application was one of only eight grants funded by the IAC in the Cultural Heritage Projects division.

A $1,045 grant from the State Historical Society of Iowa will help shore up the foundation of Amsterdam School and provide complete pest extermination.

An $1,100 grant from the Marion County Community Foundation will provide a permanent outdoor display at Amsterdam School that will highlight the area’s history, including that of the village of Amsterdam once located near the school.
