Today we continue the countdown of the Top 10 sports stories of the 2016-2017 school year at Pleasantville High School with number seven.

After years of facing Pride of Iowa Conference rival Martensdale-St. Mary’s in postseason play, the Pleasantville Trojan girls basketball team finally broke through and took down the Blue Devils in first round regional action in 2017. The game started off slow for Pleasantville, scoring only four points in the first quarter and trailing 16-19 at halftime. The aggressiveness picked up in the second half for the Trojans, as junior guard Kelsee Van Haalen started to rack up the points at the charity stripe and scored 15 of her 19 points at the line. The Trojans defense also clamped down as the they allowed only 15 Martensdale points to the Trojans 28. Senior Abbie McVay also scored 15 points in the matchup. The Trojans ended their season at 7-16.
