It’s is the biggest four nights on the sprint car calendar. Over 100 drivers from 22 states plus Canada and Australia will try to add their name to the list of winners of the Knoxville Nationals. Even though he did not win it last year, Nine Time Champion Donny Schatz is still the heavy favorite due to his success on the World of Outlaws as the points leader and his win on the Saturday show when the Outlaws were at Knoxville in June. That said, there are several drivers that have a shot at that coveted title on Saturday. Jac Haudenschild will try to qualify for his 19th Nationals A-Main and thinks he has one of the best cars he has ever had at the Nationals, and a crew chief in Tyler Swank to turn the wrenches. Joey Saldana, who is in a new ride after parting way with Stenhouse/Wood Racing in June knows what it takes to be in contention. Like Haudenschild, Saldana will be going for his 19th National A-Main and has finished runner-up three times, all three to Schatz. Saldana tells KNIA/KRLS Sports being reunited with owner and crew chief Willie Kahne give him his best shot to be the winner in several years. Last year’s pole sitter Daryn Pittman has not had a lot of success at Knoxville. When the Outlaws were in town in June Pittman finished eighth and 13th that weekend. Pittman says his team is taking a fresh approach this week. The format for the first two nights is time trialing, five heat races, a C-Main, B-Main and an A-Main, after night two tomorrow night the top 16 in points are locked into Saturday finale. You can hear the action on AM 1320 and 95.3 KNIA and with Live Track Side at five and Race Nights Live at seven.
