Today we continue the countdown of the Top 10 sports stories of the 2016-2017 school year at Central College, and we’ve finally reached number one.

The Central College women’s golf team rallied from 19 strokes down after the first two rounds to win the Iowa Conference golf championship on October 8th.

The Dutch trailed Wartburg at the halfway point of the tournament, but shaved 18 strokes off during the third round before beating the Knights by nine strokes in the final round to win by eight.

Molly Timmerman finished fourth individually for Central, with teammate Brittany Coppess right behind in fifth.

It was Central’s first women’s golf championship since 1990, and snapped Wartburg’s nine-year stranglehold on the title.

The IIAC championship gave the Dutch an automatic berth into the NCAA championship tournament this spring in Houston, Texas, where they finished 17th in the country.
