A house just north of the Pella City Limits was hit by lightning during early morning storms.

A neighbor told KNIA/KRLS News he and his wife heard a large crack of thunder at approximately 5:30 a.m. as a bolt hit the back side of a home on 616 228th Place. The homeowners were able to extinguish the ensuing fire, but they called authorities to make sure there weren’t unseen flames and to check on a nearby gas line.

Pella Rural Fire, Pella Ambulance, and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded, and minor damage was reported to the back of the house. Nobody was injured.

The storms that passed through brought much-needed rainfall to the region. Radar estimates indicate that Marion County received approximately between a tenth and a half inch of precipitation.
