Pella Christian started their volleyball season by playing against some of the biggest schools in Central Iowa in the Ankeny Centennial tournament Saturday.

The No. 10 in 2A Eagles were 1-3 on the day, defeating the three-time defending 5A champion Ankeny Centennial’s Junior Varisty squad (17-21, 21-19, 15-10), while falling to No. 6 in 4A Lewis Central (15-21, 13-21), No. 5 in 5A Dowling (9-21, 15-21), and Ames (20-25,22-25). Head Coach John Evenhouse tells KNIA/KRLS Sports the competition was among the best they’ll see all year, but the Eagles committed many errors. Emma Huisman had 51 assists and Bekah Horstman had 29 kills on the day. The Eagles start the conference season Tuesday at home against Oskaloosa.
