The Pella City Council discussed the future use of hotel-motel taxes in the city at their meeting this week during policy and planning.

Currently, the city sends 60% of the funds to the Pella Area Community and Economic Alliance for operation of the Pella Convention and Visitors Bureau, with the rest being used for parks and other quality of life projects. Discussion centered about a new contract for the city between either the PACE Alliance or the CVB, which has indicated their desire to operate separately from PACE. Council members and city staff discussed the possibility of other organizations applying to use the funds, and how they could tweak the current funding formula to accommodate all parties.

The council will address the matter in November after the Convention and Visitors Bureau submits a budget proposal.
