Today we continue the countdown of the Top 10 sports stories of the 2016-2017 school year at Pleasantville High School with number three.

Coming off a successful 2015 but losing a lot of core members, the Pleasantville football team was a relative unknown coming into the 2016 season. The Trojans began to rack up the wins early on by large margins, slipped up against Pella Christian late in their district schedule, and drew longtime rival Madrid at home for their first round playoff matchup.

The Trojans fell behind early, but came storming back on a halfback pass from Hunter Tyree to Gauge Van Haalen to put them within striking distance. After the touchdown, and with less than two minutes to go in the game, the Trojans had to recover an onside kick to have a chance at winning it. Although the Trojans ended up falling just short on the ensuing possession after recovering the onside attempt and falling to Madrid 27-20, the game was a showcase on the culture of the Trojan football program.
