Jacob Zuck’s 184 total yards including 109 on the ground helped the Knoxville Football Squad squeezed by Chariton last night 13-6 in week one of the high school football season. The Panthers looked to be ready to dominate from the opening kickoff when they drove down on their first possession aided by a 41 yard scamper by Joe Hollinrake to set up the Panthers first and ten from the Charger 31, when Zuck took in it the rest of the way to put Knoxville up 7-0. After a late field goal by Chariton just before halftime to cut the lead to 7-3, the Chargers started to dominate the field putting together a time consuming drive but could only muster another three pointer out of it to cut the Panther lead to one at 7-6. But late in the game, on a four and two play from the Chariton 30, the Chargers were called for off sides, giving Knoxville a fresh set of downs and Zuck plunged in from nine yards out a few plays later. The Panther defense kept Chariton at bay, and Coach Eric Kellar praised his seniors and the defense for stepping up to the challenge. Zuck also had 75 yards through the air, and Hollinrake contributed 74 yards rushing on five carries. Titius Chapman with eight tackles and Gabe Gibson also with eight tackles were the stars on defense as was Rylan Cox who got his first interception of the season. Knoxville is now 1-0 on the season and plays its home opener next week against Fairfield.
