Whitworth jumped to a 49-0 lead Saturday over the Central College football team and rolled to a 56-13 victory in a game heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

It was the second largest margin of defeat in Dutch football history, behind only Central’s 61-6 loss to St. Ambrose in 1951.

After each team punted on its first two possessions, the Pirates ran a successful fake punt. That sparked a Whitworth onslaught, as they scored touchdowns on their next seven drives to take control of the game.

Pirate quarterback Ian Kolste was 37-of-45 yards for 473 yards and six touchdowns. And he only played halfway through the third quarter.

Central finally got into the end zone late in the third quarter on a Pat Gray two-yard run, and Donny Groezinger burst free for a 40-yard score in the fourth.

Central starts the season 0-1, and they’ll try to right the ship next Saturday in another home game against Augustana of Illinois.
