The headline event of homecoming weekend takes place this afternoon at Central College as the Dutch football team hosts Nebraska Wesleyan.

The Dutch are 1-2 overall after last week’s overtime loss to Buena Vista, while the Prairie Wolves hung tough with defending league champion Coe, but fell to 0-3.

Temperatures for today’s game at Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium in Pella are expected to be in the 90s, and coach Jeff McMartin says that means that roster depth will play a big part in today’s game.

“You’re going to probably have to play a few more players than you normally do, which is going to be a smart thing for us today. So how those backups perform is going to make a difference. If we create some good things or if we hold our own, we have to make sure that’s what’s happening when we play some of these younger guys.”

McMartin says that they also need to cash in when they have chances to score touchdowns. He’s pleased that Jon Alberts has been able to make seven field goals over the last two weeks, but says that his offense should be cashing in and not relying on their kicker to score points.

Today’s game starts at 1:00, with pregame coverage beginning at 12:35 on 92.1 KRLS. Trevor Castley, George Wares and Libby Randall will have the call.
