Some of the best bands in central Iowa are gathering to kick off the marching band competition season this weekend in Pella.
Director of Bands Jason Pentico tells KNIA/KRLS News dozens of ensembles will compete in the Marching Dutch Invitational.
“It really has evolved over the eight years we’ve been holding it, it started back in 2010, and we had eight bands that were here,” he says. “Now we’ve gotten up to 20, 21 bands, and just a full slate of fantastic groups coming in this year.”
“It’s just a really great way for us to kick off the season.”
Pentico says the Marching Dutch will close the night with an exhibition performance. Additionally, PCM and Knoxville will compete during the competition, which takes place from 4 to 10 p.m. at the Pella High School football field.
