Staff and students at Jefferson Intermediate School in Pella are rallying support for a school district in Texas heavily impacted by Hurricane Harvey by sending a “Flood of Love.”

Teacher at Jefferson Intermediate School Matt Rauch tells KNIA/KRLS News students and staff are sending a “Flood of Love” to a district in Texas. Rauch once lived in Dickinson, Texas, an area he says was heavily impacted by the storms.

“Just knowing Pella and the strong community that Pella is, decided to come to Mr. Miller and talked to him and said, ‘Hey, is there anything we can do to help out?’ in some way, even if it’s financial or even if it’s just sending supplies down,” he says.

Jefferson Intermediate has raised over $2300 to help the district, but they aren’t only sending money. Students Ashton Huizer and Tess Hopkins were among dozens of 4th through 6th graders that wrote special messages on green hearts.

“I wrote, ‘our hearts and your hearts are connected, no matter what happens,'” Huizer says.

“I wrote, ‘don’t give up hope, you are loved,'” Hopkins says.
