A National Emergency Alert System (EAS) test will be held Wednesday at approximately 1:20 p.m.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency alert will be transmitted in English and Spanish and will include both audio and the text of the test message. Program Director for KNIA/KRLS Spencer Dirks tells KNIA/KRLS News the EAS is a network system throughout the country that allows radios stations and other media outlets to be informed whenever there is a major emergency such as severe weather or an amber alert. He says it is a way for KNIA/KRLS to get the information fast to be able to pass it on to our listeners. A back-up date of Oct. 4 has been slated if there’s any need to delay the national test. Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS during any emergency for updates.
