A Pleasantville man was arrested following a domestic assault which later resulted in two law enforcement vehicles being damaged and an officer being injured.

35-year-old Aaron Niehus of Pleasantville was arrested Thursday after officers responded to a report of domestic assault in progress. Upon arrival officers identified Niehus had fled the scene. A short time later he was apprehended. While being transported by Pleasantville Police, Niehus became combative and was able to kick and damage the patrol car side window. The officer was able to safely pull his patrol car over and request assistance. Niehus also injured the Pleasantville Police officer after he kicked the officer in the leg and shoulder. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office along with Knoxville Police Department assisted with restraining Niehus so he would not injure himself or officers.

Because of the damage to the Pleasantville Police vehicle, Knoxville transported Niehus to the Marion County Law Enforcement Center. During transport by Knoxville, Niehus also became combative, damaging the patrol car door and causing $1100 damage. Niehus was charged with two counts of criminal mischief 2nd degree, a class D felony, as well as assault on a police officer causing injury, a class D felony, domestic abuse assault and interference with official acts.
