Here’s what happened with the rest of the Central College sports teams over the weekend…

A spirited comeback carried the Dutch volleyball team to a home-court split of its four matches in the Iowa Conference-Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Crossover. On Friday, Central beat Benedictine (3-0) and lost to Lakeland (3-2), then Saturday the Dutch were outdueled by Wisconsin Lutheran (3-1) but came bac to beat Milwaukee School of Engineering (3-2). The 2-2 mark over the weekend puts Central at 8-9 overall.

Six different players found the back of the net Saturday afternoon as the Central women’s soccer team routed Simpson 7-0 in their Iowa Conference opener. Olivia Denham scored twice for the Dutch, who are 8-1 overall.

The men’s match was much closer, with Simpson pulling out a 3-2 overtime win to hand Central its first loss of the year. Bryce Leonard had both Dutch goals, as they drop to 6-1 on the season.

Sophomore Kris Weeden was the second-place winner in Flight C singles at the Iowa Conference individual men’s tennis championships in Ankeny, and a doubles victory by Ashley Maley and Emma Grace Walter highlighted the final day of play for the women’s tennis team at the Gustavus Fall Invitational.
