In the biggest win in head coach Matt Jeter’s tenure, the Simpson Storm football team upset reigning Iowa Conference champion and 3-0 Coe College yesterday 38-33.

The Storm struck quickly, building a 14-0 lead before the Kohawks seemed to be into the game, but Coe would make it a tight game at halftime scoring a late touchdown to give the Storm a slim 21-20 lead at half. A field goal from Drew Jensen gave the Storm some breathing room, but Coe marched down the field to take a 27-24 lead, but the Storm didn’t quit.

A rushing touchdown from Cam Bunting, followed by a defensive stand, then a receiving touchdown from Braden Meints gave the Storm a two possession lead that they would not relinquish. A late touchdown by Coe was not enough, as they could not convert the two point conversion or the onside kick as Simpson ran out the clock.

Quarterback Sam Sasso threw for four touchdowns for the third straight game and 340 yards, Jackson Redmond has 111 receiving yards and a td, while Cam Bunting rushed for 123 yards and a score. The field goal by Jensen also moved him into sole possession in the record books of first place in career field goals made at Simpson with 27.

The Storm improve to 2-2, and 1-1 in conference play, on the season, and will take on their rival Central at home next Saturday.
