The Knoxville Rotary Club will take part in the Rotary International End Polio Now fundraising event today.

The Rotary Club will mark its progress toward a polio-free world, while urging the community for support. Since Rotary and its partners launched the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, the incidence of polio has plummeted from about 350,000 cases a year to just 37 cases in 2016. Rotary has committed to raising $50 million per year over the next three years in support of global polio eradication efforts. The Rotary Club is inviting residents to the Grill and Still today from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. A meal will be served for $20 per person with $10 from each meal being donated to End Polio Now. Knoxville Mayor Briant Hatch will sign a World Polio Day Proclamation at 5 p.m. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will match Rotary’s commitment by a two to one ratio. Rotarians and students who took part in the Rotary Youth Leadership Award Conference will also be at the Knoxville HyVee, Fareway, and Walmart entrances giving a lifesaver to save lives by Ending Polio Now.
