Central College wide receiver Sam Markham was named to the D3football.com team of the week for the fifth time while kicker Jon Alberts earned his first selection this week.

Markham’s fifth selection surpassed former Dutch punter Kurtis Brondyke for the most times on the team of the week. It’s his second time on the team this year after receiving the accolade three times last year.

In the 19-year history of the award, Central is up to 38 recipients, the most of any school in the Iowa Conference. Markham is one of just 12 Division III players to be recognized at least five times in their career.

Needing just nine catches to pile up 188 yards, Markham also had touchdown catches of 19 and 49 yards. The 188 yards is 10th most in a single game in school history while the touchdown receptions pushed him to 28 in his career, an all-time program record.

Alberts had at least three field goals in a game for the third time in 2017. He connected from 20, 38 and 40 yards out. The sophomore is a perfect 11-for-11 on field goal attempts this year.

Central has the weekend off before hosting Loras College on October 28th.
