For the first time in Iowa high school football playoff history, two teams who played for the state championship one year will square off in the first round of the playoffs the next year.

Pella defeated Webster City 28-18 in the class 3A championship game nearly 12 months ago, and the two teams meet at Pella High School tomorrow night in the round of 16.

It’s only the 12th time ever that there has been a championship rematch in the next year’s playoffs, with eight of those previous encores also being a title game, and the other three occurring in the semifinals.

Tomorrow night’s first-of-its-kind rematch kicks off at 7:00 at Pella High School, with live play-by-play on AM 1320 and FM 95.3 KNIA, www.kniakrls.com and the free KNIA mobile app.
