When Pella Christian hosts Sigourney-Keota Friday night in the opening round of the class 1A football playoffs, it will be a battle of the number one scoring offense in the state against the number one yardage offense in the state.

The second-ranked Eagles are 9-0 and feature class 1As highest scoring offense. Pella Christian has tallied 416 points, which is more than 46 per game. The Cobras, at 5-4, are averaging 40 points per contest, sixth most in the class.

Meanwhile, Sigourney-Keota has racked up the most yards in class 1A. They’ve rushed for 3,638 yards, most in the state regardless of class and nearly a thousand more than any other team in 1A. They’re averaging a total of 489 yards per game on offense. Pella Christian is fourth with 427 per contest.

The Eagles and Cobras also played in the first round of last year’s playoffs, with Pella Christian earning a convincing 49-0 victory.
