The past two seasons, Pella and Norwalk have twice battled for a district championship and once for a class 3-A state championship.

Tonight, the two teams once again have a marquee matchup with district title implications. Both teams are 5-1 overall and 4-0 in district play. If the Little Dutch win, they’re in the driver’s seat for their fifth consecutive district championship. A Warriors victory would add extra intrigue to their week 9 matchup with Carlisle, who Pella has already defeated.

In that win over the Wildcats, Pella’s Avery Van Zee was injured, and he’s missed their last two games against Grinnell and Knoxville. Coach Jay McKinstrey is excited to have his best playmaker back on the field.

“I think he has the ability and leadership skills where everybody elevates their play because he’s out there. You could see that this summer when baseball ended and he came out and ran sprints with the guys. He added an element to our conditioning and strength stuff. It’s great to have him back, we’re excited that he gets a chance to play tonight, and we’re hopeful for great things for Avery and for the rest of the team.”

Kickoff is set for 7:30 at Pella High School. Trevor Castle and Randy Sikkema will call the action live on our KRLS2 stream at www.kniakrls.com. Pregame starts at 7:00.
