As the holiday season begins local shoppers will once again hear the distinct sound of Salvation Army Bell Ringers across Marion County.

The ringing begins today as ringers will be on the square in downtown Knoxville during the annual Living Windows Celebration. Merna Furney with the ringers tells KNIA/KRLS News it’s important to give back all year but the kettle money is a good way to share for the county with 90% of the money raised staying in Marion County. Furney says last year the county received over $44,000 which was used for families in Marion County during emergencies. In Knoxville ringers will be located throughout the holiday season at Walmart, Hy-Vee and Fareway. Last year Knoxville raised nearly $30,000 through kettle money donations. Furney says 778 people rang bells last year including 18 church congregations but more volunteers are always welcome.
