Both the Central College men’s and women’s basketball teams lost Saturday to teams from Minnesota.

The Dutch men dropped their home opener, 78-64 to Gustavus Adolphus, as they shot just 36.2 percent from the field to fall to 0-4 on the season.

Trashawn Boyd led Central with 15 points and Kyle Smith added 13 points and four rebounds.

The Dutch women fell for the second time in two Saturdays to Bethany Lutheran, 82-74.

The Vikings outscored Central 31-14 in the second quarter to build a 14-point halftime lead, and while Central eventually cut it to six early in the fourth, Bethany Lutheran ripped off 10 points in less than 90 seconds to put it away.

Jessica Helton’s 14 points led the Dutch, who drop to 2-2.

Up next for both teams is a trip to Decorah on Wednesday for their Iowa Conference opener.
