For the first time in program history, the Pella Christian football team is heading to the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls after blowing past Pleasantville 44-6, as heard live on KNIA and kniakrls.com.

It was wire-to-wire domination for the Eagles, as they scored on the opening drive. Pella Christian busted the contest wide open by taking 58 seconds to march 67 yards for six points just before half, and with a little help from the Trojans, an extra field goal with two seconds remaining to take 24-0 lead into the break. The Trojans were only able to muster two yards rushing in the first two quarters and four first downs over the first 24 minutes.

Assistant Coach Verlan Nikkel tells KNIA/KRLS Sports they made key adjustments after the week seven regular season game to disrupt Pleasantville early–and led to four sacks and another four stops behind the line of scrimmage.

“We went to more of a five-front look, and we did some twisting and popping and slanting with those guys up there, that pretty well went to the direction the were going to run the ball based on the play they were going to run,” he says.

Hayden Vroom finished with three rushing touchdowns and a passing score, while Moises Carballo had two sacks and a punt block.

The undefeated Eagles head to Cedar Falls next Saturday to take on Iowa City Regina at 10 a.m., a rematch of the 2016 1A quarterfinals.
