It is the South Central Conference opener for the Knoxville Basketball Squads tonight as the Panthers travel to Albia. The girls are coming off an impressive 13 point win over P-C-M a week ago, and have had the last week to prepare for their first conference opponent, who comes in at 1-1 with a win over Carinal in their opener and a loss to North Mahaska last week. Panthers girls coach Jim Uitermarkt tells KNIA/KRLS they know the Albia players very well…but the Lady Dees may do a few things differently due to having a new coach. He says they will be ready for whatever Albia throws at them. The boys will play their season opener. Knoxville is coming off a 16-8 season and an outright South Central Conference Championship last year. The Panthers will also welcome a few new faces, but have their core back from last season with Patrick Crawford and Ben Wallace. Coach Jeff Larson tells KNIA/KRLS Sports they need to be the team leaders this season. You can hear the call on AM 1320 and 95.3 KNIA and kniakrls.com with Derek Cardwell and John Keitges at 6:15.
