For the first time in four years, there’s a heightened sense of uncertainty for a class 2A powerhouse boys basketball program as they seek their 4th straight state tournament appearance.

Pella Christian, the defending 2A runners-up, don’t bring much back. In fact, they only have 21 points and 13 rebounds from last year’s stat line in this year’s main rotation.

But Head Coach Larry Hessing says that doesn’t mean they won’t be competitive, as he believes this group has shown many positive signs heading into the winter.

“I think when you have a lot of people back, you kind of know where people will fit in terms of starting players and substitution patterns. But right now, it’s pretty wide open, even though there are some players who have distinguished themselves during the summer and the first part of our practices. We’re kind of starting from scratch and trying to figure out who’s going to do what.”

Pella Christian will get to test their new varsity team when they travel to ADM on Tuesday, November 28th, as part of a girl-boy doubleheader that can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
