The PCM Girls basketball team started out their season strong last Friday night in a 55-48 victory over Newton, and a big reason for that was the fast start leading to a significant halftime lead.

The Mustangs led 14-8 after the first quarter, and 31-24 at halftime which allowed them to control the pace of the game. Returning star sophomore guard Regan Freland dominated the first half, scoring 19 of her 21 overall points before the Cardinals could adjust in the second half.

The 1-0 Mustangs will have a tough schedule coming up with out of conference games against Knoxville and Pella Christian in the next week, with a conference matchup against Saydel sandwiched in between.
