Two Marion County rivals will square off tonight on the basketball court as the Pleasantville Trojans will host the Saints of Melcher-Dallas.

Both girls squads come into the game 0-1 on the young season, with the Trojans falling to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont and the Saints to Wayne, but both teams have higher expectations this season. The Saints finally have some depth on their squad, which allows their young talent to see 5v5 drills in practice, while the Trojans have a talented senior class that looks to climb up the ranks in the Pride of Iowa Conference.

It will be the season debut for both boys teams, and it will look to be more competitive than in years past. Last year, the Trojans battled through an early Saints run to win 64-41, but Melcher-Dallas bring back nearly every contributor from their 4-17 squad. Pleasantville head coach Joel Allman told KNIA/KRLS sports, that he wouldn’t be surprised to see the Saints give his team a battle.

The doubleheader tonight can be heard live on our KNIA3 stream on KNIAKRLS.com, with Andrew Swadner and Tom Wilkins on the play-by-play. Pregame coverage starts at 5:45, with tip-off of the girls game at 6.
