As winter weather will return soon, residents are reminded to follow snow ordinances in local communities and in Marion County.
Driven by credible weather forecasts or actual accumulation, a snow emergency in Pella is first declared by the Public Works Director. The Chief of Police then alerts the public of this fact through KNIA/KRLS. The Knoxville Snow Ordinance generally goes into effect any time they expect to receive one inch or more of snow.
Vehicles found on streets may be cited and/or towed. Once declared, the ordinance stays in effect until the storm ends and the street has been plowed from curb to curb or 24 hours has passed since the storm ended.
In the county, clearance of snow or ice and maintenance of the secondary road system during the winter months are primarily for the benefit of the local residents, and each storm has individual characteristics and must be dealt with accordingly.
