A balanced-scoring attack propelled the Central College women’s basketball team to an 81-64 victory over Iowa Wesleyan Saturday afternoon in Pella, and an upset bid was denied in St. Louis as the Dutch men lost to No. 11 Washington University 87-83.

With its third consecutive win, the Central women improve to 5-3 overall. Central had four players in double-figures with Kendall Brown leading the way with 14 points and seven rebounds.

It was a back-and-forth men’s game, with Central trailing 44-40 at halftime. The Dutch rallied to take a 52-50 lead with 16:11 left in the game, then the teams traded buckets until the game was tied at 79 with 1:44 remaining. Wash U’s Jack Nolan drilled a go-ahead three, and Central couldn’t answer.

Malik Wildermuth had 20 points, four steals and three rebounds in 37 minutes for Central, who falls to 2-6 on the season

The Central men will host Faith Baptist on Thursday, while the women are off until a December 18th trip to Florida.
