The Knoxville Boys Basketball Squad brought its defense against Chariton last night as the Panthers beat the Chargers 52-44 while the girls’ cold shooting and defensive breakdowns cost the Panthers the game in a 56-45 loss to Chariton as heard on AM 1320 and 95.3 KNIA. The boys jumped on top 13-4 and held Chariton at arm’s length for the rest of the game. Chariton got as close as six points…but Knoxville made a run to in the fourth quarter to salt the game away. Coach Jeff Larson told KNIA/KRLS Sports he was proud of the work they put in. Patrick Crawford led the Panthers with 19 points while Darius Pipkins had 11. Knoxville is now 3-1 on the season and 3-0 in the South Central Conference. The girls got off to a good start leading at one point in the second quarter 14-5, but Chariton went on a 28-9 run between the second and third quarters to take control of the game. Too many defensive break downs and Coach Jim Uitermarkt said Chariton played a more physical game than his team did. Maggie Wilkins led the Panthers with 12 points. Knoxville is now 4-1 on the season and 2-1 in the conference. Both Knoxville squads will travel to Pella Christian on Monday.
