With MaryKate Bandstra back in the line-up, the Pella Christian girls’ basketball team’s offense clicked from the beginning in a 58 – 27 drubbing of Norwalk, in a doubleheader heard live on KRLS2.
Pella Christian attacked the glass hard and had ten offensive rebounds in the first half, but were unable to capitalize on second-chance opportunities. Coach Kevin Van Maanen says his team tried to rush too much in the first half, which led to an unbalanced offense and unforced turnovers.
The Eagles hit eight shots from beyond the arc, three of them by Emma Huisman, who finished with 11 points, and Isabella Baugh had a game high 12. PC’s “D” also forced 25 turnovers.
Pella Christian’s boys fell behind by as much as 17 and made a late second-half push, but lost to the Warriors, 66 – 57. Norwalk turnovers helped keep the Eagles within arm’s length, and they got as close as six with a few minutes left in the fourth but could not close the gap further.
Dan Jungling led all scorers with 23 points, and Alex Huisman put in 12 for the now 2 – 6 Eagle boys; the girls improve to 6 – 2 overall. The Eagles’ last 2017 test is a road affair on Tuesday to Indianola to face the Indians.
