A fire destroyed a home just north of Knoxville Tuesday evening.

Just before 7:30 p.m. Tuesday a garage fire was reported at 1293 Illinois Drive in rural Knoxville. Upon arrival fire crews witnessed smoke coming from the garage and around the roof of the home. As crews began to extinguish the fire, the fire spread to the rest of the home. KNIA/KRLS News spoke to the owner of the home who said he had just returned home with his wife when they smelled something burning coming from the garage and the fire alarms started to sound. They then left the home to call 911. Knoxville Township Rural Fire Department, Knoxville Fire and Rescue, Pella Fire, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Pleasantville Fire Department, Monroe Fire Department and Marion County Emergency Management responded to the scene. No one was hurt. Marion County land records indicate the home is owned by Michael and Jill Romick.
