The Pella City Council approved an engineering services agreement to draw up plans to upgrade underground power lines in the Brook Circle neighborhood at their meeting Tuesday.

A contract with DGR incorporated will include designs to replace current underground lines to a more durable and higher-voltage cable. They approved the final contract for the Lincoln Street reconstruction project and change orders to both the water treatment plant and Caldwell Park improvement contracts. A preliminary and final plat for the Browne Addition was also approved.

After regular business, the Pella City Council continued their focus on housing at this week’s policy and planning, including potential updates to the city’s residential and commercial building codes were discussed. According to city staff, they are considering upgrading the City’s building codes to the 2015 International Building Code (IBC) and International Residential Code (IRC). Current regulation in Pella is 2003 for housing and 2008 for commercial property.

Following code discussion, the council heard a presentation on a potential urban renewal area for additional housing units at Bos Landen Golf Course.
