The Pella City Council continued their focus on housing at this week’s meeting.

City Administrator Mike Nardini tells KNIA/KRLS News that at Policy and Planning, the Pella City Council started to lay the framework for a potential urban renewal area for additional housing units at Bos Landen Golf Course. Nardini says they’ve already looked at that area as a place to add more housing units in the community, as the council recently gave conditional support to the potential 45-house Bos Ridge neighborhood and approved a plat for the Fairway Meadows townhouse project.

“The purpose of the urban renewal area is to provide additional housing in our community, which is sorely needed,” Nardini says. “In essence, what urban renewal allows the City of Pella to do is offer economic development incentives to developers to build additional housing in our community.”

Nardini says this plan would reimburse those developers for the cost of installing infrastructure through extended tax increment financing. The potential urban renewal area will head to the Planning and Zoning commission at their next meeting. Hear more from this week’s Pella City Council meeting on Let’s Talk Pella.
