Pella’s girls basketball team is doing what all other teams around the state are doing during the holiday break – working hard to get better.

While some teams have a specific focus area that needs improvement, coach Jerod Garland says that for a young team that is gaining experience as the season goes on, the Lady Dutch still have work to do in many different areas.

“There’s not really any one area that is more lacking than others. There are just a lot of areas that we need to continue to improve on. On offense, it’s finding the open person, making smart passes and making the extra pass when we need to.”

Defensively, Garland says that they’ll be working on positioning, as they’ve been caught out of position too many times this season, leading to too many easy buckets for their opponents.

Pella is 6-3 this season, 2-2 in Little Hawkeye Conference play, and they’ll host Newton next Friday for their first game out of the holiday break.
