Both the Pella girls and boys basketball teams will host Ballard tonight in a non-conference doubleheader.

A young and inexperienced Lady Dutch squad has dropped back-to-back games, including a blowout by Grinnell on Friday, to fall to 1-2 on the season. Head coach Jerod Garland says that he and the rest of the staff are figuring out the areas that need to be improved, starting with the mental aspect of the game.

“A lot of it just might be teaching and going through scenarios and situations to help them see the game a little bit better. And then we have to continue to work on fundamentals like ball handling and shooting. We’re going to keep at it, and the fun thing is that it’s going to be very rewarding when we become successful because of the hard work that the girls are going to put in.”

Pella’s opponent tonight, tradition rich Ballard, is also off to an uncharacteristically slow start at 1-2.

On the boys side, Pella is 2-0 under first year coach Derek Schulte, while the Bombers come in at 1-1.

We’ll have live coverage tonight on 92.1 KRLS, with pregame at 5:45 and opening tip of the girls game at 6:00. Trevor Castle and Mike Buchheit will provide the play-by-play.
