Slow starts doomed both Pleasantville Trojan girls and boys basketball squads last night in a pair of losses to Central Decatur as heard live on our KNIA3 stream. The Trojan girls fell down early 17-2 against the heavily favored Cardinals team and ended up falling 64-35, while the boys only mustered 1 point through the first quarter and fell 46-42.

The girls team was led by 20 points from Kelsee Van Haalen, and played the #2 ranked Cardinals tough after that first rough patch, and immensely improved on their past performances against Central Decatur that included an 80-13 loss that ended their season last year.

The boys outscored the Cardinals in quarters 2-4, but unfortunately could not recover from a 12-1 first quarter deficit. Gauge Van Haalen scored 18 points in the loss, and head coach Joel Allman told KNIA/KRLS Sports that the teams offensive struggles as of late will have to be looked at over the holiday break.

The Trojan girls fall to 4-4, the boys fall to 5-2, and both teams will play next play again in 2018 against Southeast Warren.
