The Martensdale-St. Mary’s Blue Devils played exceptional defense holding both Pleasantville Trojan boys and girls basketball squads to under 25 points, as the boys lost 46-23, and the girls 36-24 in a pair of games heard live on our KNIA3 stream.

The boys started off slow, falling behind 16-7 early into the second quarter, but went on a 9-0 run to tie the game at 16. The game was all Blue Devils after that, as they went on to lead 24-16 at half, and allowing only 7 Trojan points in the second half. Gauge Van Haalen led the Trojans with 7 points, and 6’7 center Brady Gavin for Martensdale dominated the paint scoring 25 points.

On the girls side, the Blue Devils played a switching zone where Trojan standout Kelsee Van Haalen was double teamed wherever she went, and the Trojans could not keep up offensively. Kelsee Van Haalen scored 6 points to lead the Trojans, while Jordan Dursky and Jessica Remster scored 4 apiece.

The girls fall to 3-3, the boys to 4-1, and both teams will make the road trip to East Union this Friday.
