Knoxville High School hosted their 10th Annual Coaches vs Cancer event Saturday.

The event began in the morning and featured alumni basketball games, a silent auction and a survivor’s ceremony held between the varsity basketball games with Chariton. During the survivors ceremony, organizers of the Knoxville Cancer Relay donated a large check to Coaches vs Cancer which totaled a shocking $23,501.67

The Knoxville and Chariton basketball teams and cheerleaders circled around the court to once again honor the first people ever recognized as part of the Coaches vs Cancer event ten years ago. Mary Keefer and Knoxville 6th grader Anna Buttell once again stood center court , this time as winners of their battles with cancer as they held back tears and the crowd cheered. With the donations from Saturday, co-organizer of the event Jim Uitermarkt tells KNIA/KRLS News the event has already surpassed $60,000 which puts the event past $500,000 over the past 10 years with more proceeds still to be totaled.
