A head-on collision occurred Saturday night on Highway 5 near Hamilton sending one person to the hospital.

Just after 9 p.m. a 2001 Ford Escape driven by 53-year-old Debra Hicks of Des Moines was headed north in the 2400 block of Highway 5 when she veered into the southbound lanes and collided with a 2013 Chevy Equinox driven by 29-year-old Cory Pranklet of Moravia. The impact of the collision caused the Equinox to roll over multiple times and come to rest on its top in a ditch south of the initial impact while the Escape came to rest in the east ditch. A passenger in the Equinox, 27-year-old Kelsey Johnson of Moravia was transported to Albia Hospital for minor injuries. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Bussey Fire and Rescue, and Pella Ambulance responded to the scene among other agencies.
