Indianola came to Pella and swept the basketball teams in a doubleheader heard live on KRLS2 at KNIAKRLS.com.

The Lady Dutch fell 74-51, and the boys, despite building a large first-half lead, ultimately lost 64-58. Pella’s girls were unable to get anything to fall early against Indianola, who pulled to a double-digit advantage halfway through the first quarter.

Head Coach Jerod Garland tells KNIA/KRLS Sports it was a difficult hole to climb out of, especially against an elite team.

“They cause a lot of problems with their quickness, and at the same time, we did have some looks, and we just weren’t able to shoot in the first half like we needed to stick with this team, and if you want to have a chance to beat this team or Grinnell in our conference, you have to shoot well,” he says.

Pella was led by 16 points and 10 rebounds from Emily Holterhaus and 12 points from Erica Bossard. They were unable to slow down future Missouri Tiger Grace Berg, who dropped 28 points and collected 14 boards.

Pella’s boys climbed to as much as a 13-point led in the 2nd quarter, but Indianola’s boys closed the gap to five at the break. The Little Dutch mustered a five-point third quarter, turning the ball over five times in the frame, which gave Indianola a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

The Little Dutch got a 15-point night out of Logan Shetterly, and 11 apiece from Landon Vander Leest and Nick DeJong.

Pella stands now at 11-6 for the girls, and 10-6 for the boys, with each now dropping to 5-5 in the conference. They welcome Norwalk to Pella High School Tuesday.
