Pella’s 12th-ranked girls played #3 Grinnell tough, but fell 80-65 last night, while the Little Dutch boys sprinted to a 72-40 blowout victory over the Tigers in a doubleheader heard live on www.kniakrls.com.

Leading just 26-25 late in the second quarter, Grinnell’s girls scored 26 of the next 36 points to take control, and the Lady Dutch never got back within single digits.

Sienna Durr scored 39 points for the Tigers, and Pella got 22 points from Chloe Van Vliet, 18 points and 13 rebounds from Emily Holterhaus, and 13 points from Erica Bossard. The Lady Dutch fall to 10-5 on the season and 4-4 in the Little Hawkeye Conference.

In the boys game, Logan Shetterly drilled three first quarter three pointers, part of a 13 three-point barrage on the evening, as the Little Dutch built a comfortable double digit lead that they’d never relinquish.

That’s three wins in a row for Pella, and coach Derek Schulte says it’s been a nice bounceback for his club after a tough stretch.

“We look back at a week ago tonight from no doubt about it our most disappointing effort of the season at DC-G, and we challenged our guys and they’ve responded in the last week. What we talked about is great practices lead to results like this, and our guys have really invested in practice and it carried in to tonight.”

Nick DeJong scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to pace Pella, Shetterly added 14 and John Oltman scored 10.

The Little Dutch are 9-5 on the season and, like the girls, stand at 4-4 in the LHC. Up next is a matchup against Pella Christian Tuesday night.
